Ongoing research into new housing models finds in Casa VA a laboratory for experimentation in the development of bold strategies. This house, characterised by its distinctive geometry and compact dimensions, is based on an approach that explores concepts rooted in the dialogue between opposites.

This clash of ideas, both theoretical and aesthetic, guides the proposal towards the creation of a novel and unconventional typology. The project’s primary aim is to optimise the floor area in order to achieve a flexible and multifunctional space. To achieve this, the potential of a site is analysed which, whilst limited in size, has a clear connection with the outside world.

The six large openings, arranged along three sides of the house, flood the interior with light and provide a versatile canvas. This starting point allows us to explore the concept of an open space in which, through the creation of different levels, distinct areas are defined. The creation of this interplay of heights helps to develop a domestic landscape in which each element arises from the architecture itself.

The granite plinths act as a base and await the arrival of various designer pieces: a sofa, a bed, a kitchen, a wardrobe… These pieces take over the space and lend character to a uniform setting where each element is perfectly integrated into the space. This conception of the home as a base allows for the creation of a neutral yet expressive framework.

The few, carefully selected materials used create a blend of metallic surfaces, natural stone skirting boards and warm wooden floors, resulting in an elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The uniformity of this setting is broken up by the inclusion of design pieces in various forms, primarily furniture, lighting and art.

The role of these elements is considered fundamental, as their colour creates an interesting dialogue with the surrounding atmosphere. It is art – conceived in various formats and understood as a shifting order – that brings the space to life and ultimately shapes the identity of this unique home.
